First ever BTEC qualified fuellers!
18 Jul 2018
In a momentous occasion for the aviation fuelling industry, Flofuel Training Ltd (part of the Flofuel Group of companies) today presented the first ever BTEC awards to two members of the National Police Air Service (NPAS). This milestone marks a distinct change in the available competency of aviation refuelling staff globally and is a tangible validation of our aim to make aircraft fuelling as safe as possible.
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) provides borderless air support to the 43 police forces of England and Wales and carries out tasks such as searching for missing people, tracking and locating suspects, vehicle pursuits and more. NPAS have embraced the training program and it has ‘made a real difference’ to their operations, empowering staff to make informed decisions around fuel quality handling. It was fitting that the first ever BTEC for aircraft fuellers went to this organisation and the team from Folfuel Training Ltd were immensely honoured to be able to present the award.
Mr. Kristy Kinghorn, Head of Ground Infrastructure (Ground Ops Post Holder)
National Police Air Service (NPAS)
“NPAS is a collaboration of police forces and was brought into being 6 years ago. The National Police Air Service is managed and directed by West Yorkshire Police and provides police air support throughout England and Wales. There were a myriad of items that required standardisation and one of the many vital items was that of the management of aviation fuel to ensure all crews worked to the same and most up to date standards.
Regulation and legislation requires a fuels manager who has charge of an aviation fuel facility. To provide our fuels managers with knowledge and competency we invested in their training ensuring the individuals concerned receiving up to date schooling in this immensely important subject matter. We know that complacency cannot be allowed to exist in the handling and management of aviation fuel – the BTEC accredited course provides our staff with the confidence and knowledge to carry out their tasks safely and effectively, lowering risk and hazard potential providing the organisation with a solid foundation to carry out its every-day business that of keeping people and communities safe.”
The Pearson Edexcel BTEC (LEVEL 3 AWARD (SRF) IN AVIATION FUEL STORAGE AND HANDLING OPERATIONS) is the industry’s only formally accredited qualification and provides competency verification by standardising the training in line with industry best practice. The individuals’ work is independently assessed and after completing all the assignments, the award is achieved.
